A few months ago I was desperately searching for the perfect birthday gift for my fiction writing, bibliophile boyfriend. Books are an obvious choice and it was hard to know what he already had being that  our apartment tends to resemble a used book shop. Whilst browsing a small boutique I came across the perfect gift! A selection of soft, well cut teeshirts printed with classic novel covers called out to me. I chose the The Catcher in the Rye for the boyfriend and he loved it. We've scooping these tees up whenever we see them. So far I've gotten The Great Gatsby and have my eye on Lolita and he has gotten Moby Dick. The company responsible for these little sartorial treasures is Out of Print Clothing. Not only are these shirts super cute, but by purchasing, you will be helping out with a great cause!

Out of Print celebrates the world’s great stories through fashion. Our shirts feature iconic and often out of print book covers. Some are classics, some are just curious enough to make great t-shirts, but all are striking works of art.

We work closely with artists, authors and publishers to license the content that ends up in our collections. Each shirt is treated to feel soft and worn like a well-read book.

In addition to spreading the joy of reading through our tees, we acknowledge that many parts of the world don't have access to books at all. We are working to change that. For each shirt we sell, one book is donated to a community in need through our partnerBooks For Africa.

How we read is changing as we move further into the digital age. It's unclear what the role of the book cover will be in this new era, but we feel it's more important than ever to reflect on our own individual experiences with great literary art before it's forever changed.

Here's a video of Tom Ford's s/s 2011 collection. The show was private and models included were some of Ford's closest celebrity pals including Beyonce and Julianne Moore. 

Marc Jacobs A/W 2011

Marc Jacobs' fall collection screamed severity as lace, latex, brocades, and extreme pencil skirts marched down the runway to Marylin Manson's "The Beautiful People". It was a far cry from the glam and lightness of his seventies inspired spring collection. Chin straps held on miniature berets and uber-tight below the knee pencil skirts were shown in latex, brocade and large-scale polka dots. The wasp waists and play on proportions added to the strictness of the pieces. Overall, this collection was quite a surprise as well as reminscent of Prada and Comme de Garcons.

Diane von Furstenberg A/W 2011

The fall DVF show took inspirations from classic American women and the days of disco.  The wild, colorful prints we've come to adore and expect were there in exuberant fashion mixed with luxurious fur and leather. Simple sheathes were topped off with brimmed hats reminiscent of the great Diana Vreeland and sequined Halston-esque gowns closed the show.  Monochromatic looks in mixed textures were overall the most striking of the collection.
